Dennis Carrillo witnessed history through the band Mr. Indian and Time led by Eugene Beyale and managed by his father, Gino Carrillo . He was a young high school student and famous musician from Shiprock, New Mexico having toured with Bo Dideley and having played on the same stage with XIT, Stevie Wonder, Michael Martin Mc Murphy, Richie Haven , Buffy St Marie, and Jon Gibson. During this time they traveled to Washington Dc in 1978 and arrived there with the American Indian Movement Freedom Walk. He met Marlon Brando and Mohammed Ali there along with Stevie Wonder. AIM fought for Indian Rights which later led to Indian Sovereignty. Mr. Indian and Time sang songs such as the longest walk and Wounded Knee at the Washington Monument, Elvis Pressley Mansion and Haskell Indian College during this historic longest walk. He also experienced the struggles with Drugs and Alcohol which happened to many musicians during this time period. His band played throughout reservations and fairs and was well known throughout the Indian community. His life parallels a forgotten time in History through the eyes of this young man to a mid age adult. Dennis’ story replicates a true Forest Gump like adventure which started in the 1970’s before the age of 16 in Europe and America. This story continues today demonstrating a rocky life journey through a volatile time in American History.
